Columbine UU Church has been involved with Project Angel Heart (PAH) by ‘adopting’ a delivery route that we service every Saturday afternoon. Project Angel Heart is an organization that provides nutritious meals to persons with AIDs, cancer, and other life threatening illnesses. The meals PAH brings to clients’ homes are customized so that each client gets the diet they desperately need, given the illness that they have, but often would not have the energy or resources to prepare on their own.
We do this as one of our Just ACT programs. Our involvement started several years ago, on the first Columbine Acts day. Since then, volunteers sign up on a rotating basis to service our route on a particular Saturday. Since we have about 5 volunteers, any one person only needs to do the route about once a month. The route we go on has approximately 6-10 stops and takes about one and a half to two hours. This has also become a great way for our kids and youth to become involved in a Just ACT project.
*The PAH organization has a variety of other fundraising events during the year. Some of the special events which occur each year include:
Dining Out for Life (a Thursday in late April or early May), where restaurants contribute half of their proceeds that day to PAH.
A Taste for Life (usually a Thursday in October), is a chance to donate and taste food prepared by Denver top chefs.
Pie In The Sky (October up to the week before Thanksgiving) Pies are donated by Bluepoint Bakery, so the entire $25 pie purchase goes to help PAH.
PAH also particulates in other events such as Komen Race for the Cure, Colorado AIDS Walk, and the Denver PrideFest.
Project Angel Heart Orientations
We are always looking for volunteers to help us with our Columbine delivery route. If you are interested in becoming a volunteer, please contact Project Angel Heart (303-830-0202) to sign up for a required volunteer orientation at the PAH Headquarters at 4950 Washington Street, Denver, (which is north of I-70 on Washington St.) Orientations last about 90 minutes and are required for all new volunteers. Volunteers who will be the drivers should bring their driver’s license and proof of insurance to the orientation. Please note that you must RSVP for the orientation.
