For the last couple of years, we have been experimenting with monthly ministry themes. The goal is to intentionally design and shape our ministry journey. Themed ministry is a tool that adds vitality to our journey by aligning our conversation across all the different ministries in the church. This allows us to essentially “travel together” as a community of seekers, sharpening our relationship to one another and to life through common reflection. For example, our teachers are encouraged to weave the same monthly concept into their classroom lessons that the adults are hearing from the pulpit in worship. The new Chalice Circles (small group ministry) will be a chance to explore these ideas in-depth with adult peers. Our “Mindful Meetings” will begin all of our team meetings with the same monthly focus to connect and energize us before we enter into our particular church work. We believe that thematic ministry can be spiritually deepening, and that we could even have more fun, more ease, and more connection among us as we explore them! What could be better?
This Month our Theme is “Identity”
Our Slogan is “What’s your spiritual DNA?”
Faith Development is fundamentally important to our religion as shown in our 4th Principle: A Free and Responsible Search for Truth and Meaning
Children & Youth Faith Development
Children & Youth begin each Sunday sitting with their family in the sanctuary for the first segment of the 11:00 am worship service (10-15 minutes), which includes a “Story for Ages,” during which they are invited to sit in After the story, they are invited to their classrooms and sung out by the congregation with a song:
Go in love our hearts go with you.
Go in joy our hopes go too
Learn in love and grow in wisdom
Shine your light on all you do.
Parents are always welcome to join in the lesson with their children. Click here for more information.
Our Whole Lives Education
This is a lifespan education cirriculum which builds self-acceptance and self-esteem, fosters healthy relationships, improves decision making, and has the potential to save lives. We begin a special class for the middle school youth that continues on through High School graduation. For more information about this cirriculum click here – Our Whole Lives: Lifespan Sexuality Education
The classes, workshops, and events for adults allow them to take their spiritual journey to the next level. Try attending a meeting or class to meet other people and new perspectives. Many choose our Pathways to Membership as their first class. This wonderful class was developed to help those interested in potentially becoming Members or those that want to learn more about Unitarian Universalism and Columbine UU Church. In the class we talk about:
- UU history,
- our spiritual roots and current thoughts
- how our church operates,
- our Teams
- pledging and how you would like to volunteer.
There are many more opportunities for adults to explore our faith, look for more information in our weekly eblasts.
