Faith Development Classes have resumed for ages 5-12. Youth 13 and older are invited to join the service in the Sanctuary.
Faith Development is fundamentally important to our religion as shown in our 4th Principle: A Free and Responsible Search for Truth and Meaning
Children & Youth Faith Development
Being a multi-generational congregation is very important to our community. Keeping our children/youth in the sanctuary for the first part of the service facilitates the awareness that we are a whole community.
Free childcare is available for children age 3 and under
Children begin each Sunday class sitting with their family in the sanctuary for the first 10-15 minutes of the worship service, which includes a “Story for Ages,” during which the children are invited to sit in the front of the sanctuary facing the reader. After the story, they are invited to their faith development classrooms and sung out by the congregation with a song:
Go in love our hearts go with you.
Go in joy our hopes go too
Learn in love and grow in wisdom
Shine your light on all you do.
Parents are always welcome to join in the lesson with their children.
Our Whole Lives Education
This is a lifespan education curriculum which builds self-acceptance and self-esteem, fosters healthy relationships, improves decision making, and has the potential to save lives. We begin a special class for the Middle School youth that continues on through High School graduation. For more information about this curriculum click here – Our Whole Lives: Lifespan Sexuality Education
Adult Faith Development
There are a variety of Faith Development opportunities for adults at CUUC:
Chalice Circles The core purpose of Chalice Circles is to provide “formative space” for individuals to grow spiritually with one another. Parker Palmer says that we need wise and dependable support if we are to take a journey where the wise part of ourselves can come into view…We need spaces where we can “find the being in human-being.” A Chalice Circle is a space of acceptance and safety in which group members can explore their deepest values and the mystery of their inner life without judgment or coercion. It is a great place for new people to get to know others.
Food For Thought You are invited to participate in lively and informative discussions before the service on the first and third Sunday morning every month. Members of the congregation facilitate a variety of topics. No registration is required and no cost to attend. The time for all discussions is 8:45 a.m. to 9:45 a.m.
Friday Film Forum This is a faith development opportunity that is both social and spiritual. Anyone can facilitate. The facilitator selects the movie and leads the discussion. Participants bring their own drinks and a snack to share. Young adults are welcome but parental discretion is advised. Movies will be shown at 6 p.m. and the discussion will follow. You may also watch the movie at home and join only the discussion.
UU Conversations UU Conversations is a monthly gathering for visitors and those unfamiliar with the UU faith or with Columbine UU Church.
